Winterize Your Speedboat Prior To Storing It

If you purchased a speedboat over the summer and would like to store it in your garage for the winter, use the tips below to assist with winterizing the watercraft so that it will remain damage-free and be ready for use next year:

Have Your Boat Inspected And Serviced

Make an appointment with an individual who services boats to have your watercraft inspected. During an inspection, the boat's mechanical parts and structure will be assessed, and if there are any underlying problems, you will be advised to have them repaired.

By handling your boat's needs before storing it, you won't need to worry about encountering a problem when you are ready to take your boat out on the water next year. Even if you took good care of your boat, problems could occur just from utilizing a watercraft on a consistent basis.

Remove Loose Items And Store Them In Waterproof Containers

Place a couple waterproof containers inside of your boat and use them to store loose items. Begin by assessing the seating area and work your way toward the boat's deck to retrieve remaining items. After you have secured items inside of the containers, write down a list of the items that are inside of the containers so that you can keep track of your belongings. Set the waterproof containers inside of your garage.

If your garage isn't insulated or if moisture often accumulates inside of the structure when it rains, you will not need to worry about your belongings getting ruined because they will stay dry as long as they are inside of the containers.

Clean The Boat's Interior And Exterior Before Covering The Watercraft

Purchase a cleaning agent that is designed for use on boats and pour a small amount of the agent onto a large sponge. Use the sponge to clean the inside and outside of your boat. If your boat's exterior has a dull surface, use a buffing sponge to apply a coat of nautical wax to it. Use a lint-free cloth to wipe away excess wax once you have restored the shininess of your boat's exterior.

Place fitted covers over the boat's seats and steering wheel. Use a soft cloth that has been dampened with glass cleaner to clean the boat's windshield. Purchase a vinyl boat cover to place over the boat. After making all of the preparations, haul your boat to your garage and place the boat inside of the structure.
